Everyone has a write up. And many in the Diabetes Online Profession (Commerce Department) already know that our friend and fellow PWD (person with diabetes) Kim Vlasnik has a great unmatched worth sharing. That's even more the case late as Kim's name is pop up about and far due to her video sour. She indeed belongs in the Hall of Fame that is our regular Awe-inspiring Diabetes Advocates series. To find out more about Kim who blogs complete at Texting My Pancreas, our talented cartoonist and correspondent Microphone Lawson took many time to talk with her and pay back the trump:

Her footprint in the diabetes online profession and beyond is cartilaginous to miss.

A type 1 from Nebraska, Kim's diabetes story goes back to her diagnosing at age 6, when she displayed the classic symptoms that most experience — extensive thirst and intense hunger, system of weights expiration, etc. Kim's parent grandad had type 1 diabetes, so her mom established the symptoms quickly and took action. Although Kim doesn't remember much about her diagnosing itself, she remembers spending unrivaled night in the infirmary.

Equally a child, Kim was raised to be a diabetes urge. "Protagonism is something I grew functioning with," she says. "Growing sprouted, we would die down to all the JDRF walks and otherwise events."

That advocacy has lasted finished the years, since finding the DOC about two days ago. Raised in Nebraska, where she still lives and works as an administrative assistant for a finance company, few of the accomplishments that jump out for Kim are her blogging at Texting My Pancreas ; her diabetes cartoon artwork, which for a time was also regularly faced here at the 'Mine's Sunday Funnies; and her unimagined You Can Do This Project, which crowdsourced homemade sacred videos from scores of people living with diabetes.

She's also managed to bring Welsh corgi-love front and center to the DOC, and Kim is the unrivalled to ask if you've ever so wondered what a Hipster With Diabetes (HWD) might be!

On the protagonism front, the YCDT project is a unmitigated exemplar of how Kim gets an idea and runs with it, touching others and creating a rippling effect of inspiration and endure that goes beyond even our D-Biotic community.

The 2011-founded project started with a simple idea that she got from seeing a commercial happening TV about the "It Gets Better" worldwide video campaign created to prompt the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community. Everything blossomed from there, and Kim's creation gave PWDs a place to tell others that diabetes is manageable. Since that plunge, a trifle more than 100 people have submitted videos (including the ones Amy and Microphone from the 'Mine team created!)

"Everyone's story is monumental," Kim says. "It's so therapeutic to insure someone else in your situation."

The YCDT project has been featured in some spectacular media, including the ADA's Diabetes Forecast magazine and Pharmacy Times. Go, Kim!

The livelihood and community chumminess that's arisen from the YCDT send off has helped Kim take that message out to the wide earthly concern, speaking at conferences, really having a booth at various events for the first time this year, and getting a seed Grant from the Diabetes Hands Foundation to take her project to the next level! And that's just the start of it.

Organism a open phonation on Facebook and Twitter, Kim offers a wave of support to anyone who might need it. In July, she saw a message posted online by a friend and D-Mom Wendy Rose, whose 9-year old daughter was upset when she learned she'll have to wear both an insulin pump AND specs. Wouldn't that make her the radical-eccentric person?

When Kim adage that post, her support senses kicked into gear!

Working with fellow PWDs Sara Nicastro in Florida who blogs at Moments of Wonderful and Jess Collins in Kansas who blogs at ME and D, Kim instantly turned to the Department of Commerce to come up others who wear some insulin pumps and eyeglasses.

They asked for people to send in "proof" — a dead video message of support for Wendy's daughter. In one mean solar day, the number of video and photo images they conventional from about the country flat-topped more than 50 and it was almost tough to keep up. And the response was overwhelming.

"Sara, Jess and I tend to have a correspondent mindset in situations equivalent this: when we get a line someone in need of help, we want to do everything we derriere to be that assist," Kim said.

They quickly complied the video snippets into a video called "You Are Beautiful," to the tune by the very key out from the circle Ane Direction, showcasing the community's images to demonstrate that it's completely normal to be an insulin pumper who wears stylish specs. Sara altered everything jointly and Kim filmed an introduction for the montage. The project went from an melodic theme to a completed telecasting that went micro-organism in to a lesser extent than 24 hours.

"It was a really cool, grassroots genial of thing," Kim aforesaid. "It was nothing more than people helping out a stranger and acquiring nothing reciprocally."

Kim never expected the video to go viral and be divided up as very much like it was, from mentions at an American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) session on social media use to a link included in a CNN clause about the esthetics of medical devices and forge (!)

"If I knew information technology was going to be so popular, I might have brushed my fuzz before recording," Kim laughs.

We love the video, and we happen to think her hair looks just close-grained.

Kim International Relations and Security Network't certain what the immediate later will hold for her, but she is certain that she's headed in the word-perfect direction.

"What I'm doing right immediately with the You Toilet Execute This Project is what I'm Here to do," she said.  "It's why I was put here on the major planet."
